The LAMBETH family were present in the wider Bampton parish from 1676 when Nickolas “Lambell” married Dorkas Mathews in the parish church. Where he came from is not, at present, known. In the earlier years, their name was recorded in the parish register in various forms, including LAMBELL, LAMBOLE, LAMBOOL, LAMBERT and LAMBERTH. However by about 1715, the spelling used was normally LAMBETH.

At various times the family were recorded in Aston and Chimney. But, towards the end of the C17, Thomas LAMBETH was established in Weald as a farmer.

One of his daughters married into the CARTER family. Otherwise, this branch of the family seems not to have been closely linked with other Weald families.
